A-Level English
The aim of a sixth form course in English Literature is to provide students with an opportunity to consider and enjoy a range of prose, poetry and drama from a broad historical spectrum. Visiting speakers and trips to the theatre form part of the programme offered to classes.
Students thinking of opting for English in sixth form should be able to respond positively to the following questions:
- Do I really enjoy reading?
- Do I relish the cut-and-thrust of discussing what I have read and am I prepared to challenge the opinions of others?
- Am I interested in discovering the influences that shape the way in which a piece of literature is composed?
- Do I enjoy using words to give expression to my opinions?
Some success in English and English Literature at GCSE should be apparent as a qualification to study these subjects at Advanced level.
