Hockey

Hockey is a major sport at Ballyclare High for both girls and boys. All pupils, regardless of their experience, receive regular hockey training and are able to participate in school matches.

Saturdays are the main day for fixtures and opponents include schools from all over Ireland, representative teams and touring school teams.

The geography of the school means it is superbly placed to allow our hockey-playing-pupils to join one of the many local clubs where they can continue to develop their skills. Ulster Hockey’s ‘Super League’, combined with our historic league and inter-school matches mean that pupils have the opportunity to play against varied opposition all over Ulster from September until March.

Our facilities are fantastic and allow each player to be able to obtain knowledge from the experienced and enthusiastic team of coaches to benefit their game, or to merely enjoy themselves while becoming more physically active.

Whilst success does not only come in the form of trophies, but also in the numbers of participants and in the enjoyment those pupils have in the sport, we have had a lot of success in terms of trophies and players on representative teams in the last ten years.
