A tribute to Dr Millar

Dr Millar was an avid follower of cricket and although he did not play, he always relished his umpiring no more so than in the annual Old Ballyclarians’ v 1stXI School Boys. He just loved the cricket chats, mostly regarding decisions that were made and whether the correct ‘laws’ were applied. He enjoyed the ‘Mr Nutt staff cricket tours’ to England and was involved in taking 4 teams to Stormont to watch the historic first ever Ireland v’s England ODI.  I thank him for umpiring School cricket for 25 years, from umpiring the 1stXI’s 2nd innings and hence allowing me to go play my senior league match with Muckamore CC; to the U13s and questioning me as to why they were not as well coached and prepared that some of the big Belfast schools were? Will miss a colleague and friend.
