Crown Jesus Ministries Event Week

Crown Jesus Ministries are a local organisation whose aim is “to see the people of Ireland CROWN JESUS Lord of their lives.” They offer various forms of ministry for all age groups in schools and churches. From 18th – 22nd March 2019, the Scripture Union had Crown Jesus come into our school to put on a week of events. We fundraised in advance of the week and were very fortunate that local churches and friends of our school helped us raise £2000 through generous donations and an Afternoon Tea fundraiser event. During the week itself, Crown Jesus Ministries’ staff, alongside Youth Workers from local churches, ran various lunch time events in addition to leading assemblies, RS and Drama lessons. The lunch time events included a magician, a beat boxer and Cage Football. On the Tuesday morning during Life Skills, the whole school had the opportunity to attend a demonstration by Colin Ross, a world champion mountain biker. He showed us some of his bike skills (which included jumping over 15 teachers!) and shared about how his faith impacts his career. The week culminated in a concert on the Friday night which saw over 200 pupils and staff come together to enjoy Carpool Karaoke with some of our own teachers singing their hearts out, Through the Keyhole filmed in the Head Boy’s house without his knowledge and a dance-off between boys and girls from Senior SU! One of the highlights of the night was the Gunge Tank; pupils voted throughout the week for the teachers they would like to see gunged and Mr Thompson and Mrs McKay were the targets! There were competitions on the night to win some big prizes as well as music by the 1WAY Band and dancer Jamie Connor from Powerhouse Dance Academy. Mitch from Crown Jesus Ministries spoke about how we can walk with God and 30 pupils made a declaration of faith on the night.  Crown Jesus then came to SU to do follow-up sessions for three weeks and taught us how to get connected to God and a local Church in order to help those starting out on their journey of faith. Overall, it was a very successful week; we are grateful to everyone who supported us financially, prayerfully and by giving their time throughout the Events Week and we look forward to working again with Crown Jesus Ministries in the near future.
