European Day of Languages 2017
By Ballyclare High School on 4 October, 2017
As part of our ever-expanding international work at Ballyclare High, we celebrate the European Day of Languages in September each year, and this year was certainly no exception! On Tuesday 26th September, our Year 8 pupils learned how to say hello in ten different European languages and then had to quiz staff on what they had learned. Year 9 pupils took part in our Cultural Costume Day in which they dressed up as Spain, France and Germany. Staff were blown away by the effort and array of ideas shown by our pupils and our winners were 9R, who represented Spain beautifully.
Our ever-keen Sixth Form Language Leaders spent the morning at Fairview Primary School and delivered ‘mini lessons’ in Spanish, French and German to pupils of all ages. Fairview pupils were treated to games, songs and other fun activities to help celebrate languages. It goes without saying that after seeing some of our pupils engaging so well with younger learners, we have a few budding teachers in the making!
Numerous members of staff commented that there was a real ‘buzz’ in school during European Day of Languages and the continued level of commitment shown by both pupils and staff alike is yet another example of our enthusiasm towards all things international. Bring on next year!
