Ballyclare High School Hosts Esports Competition to Select Team for National Championships

By Ballyclare High School on 20 December, 2024

Yesterday, Ballyclare High School buzzed with excitement as over 65 students competed in the school’s annual esports competition. Held on Thursday, December 19, the event was a key part of selecting the school’s representatives for the Digital Schoolhouse (DSH) Esports Championships. This year’s game, Splatoon, brought intense action, strategy, and teamwork as pupils battled for the coveted spots on the school team.

After a full day of matches, the victorious team of Ezra, Miriam, Thomas, and Ethan emerged triumphant. This talented quartet will now represent Ballyclare High School as they compete for a place in the UK North Semi-Finals in Manchester. They’ll also have the support of Aidan, the team’s dedicated super sub.

In addition to the player selection, the event showcased the talent of Ballyclare High School’s shoutcasters. Reuben and Harry wowed the crowd with their dynamic commentary and game analysis, earning their roles as official commentators for the upcoming championships.

The event wasn’t just about competition—it highlighted the incredible benefits esports bring to students. Esports fosters teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills while promoting digital literacy and inclusivity. For many pupils, it offers a unique way to shine, especially for those who may not engage in traditional sports. The camaraderie and focus required to succeed in esports competitions mirror real-world skills, making it a powerful tool for personal and academic development.

The road ahead is thrilling for the Ballyclare High School esports team. On February 3, 2025, they will compete at the Northern Ireland DSH Championships hosted at Belong in Ballymena. With their sights set on the UK North Semi-Finals, this talented group is ready to make their mark on the national stage.

Congratulations to all participants, and best of luck to the Ballyclare High School esports team as they prepare to represent their school and inspire a new generation of gamers!
