Ulster Cross Country Championships
By Ballyclare High School on 28 February, 2018
Two teams and six individuals from Ballyclare High School qualified from the District Cross Country Championships on the 25th of January 2018 to compete against the best teams and individual runners from all over Ulster at the Ulster Schools’ Cross Country Championships. The event was held at Mallusk playing fields on the 21st of February. Our qualifying runners were: Jamie Smyth (mini boys); Bobby Higgins (minor boys); Olivia Boyd (junior girls); Peter Gillespie, Sam Ewing, Aaron Brown, Max Sterrett, Zak Johnston and Kyle Ferguson (junior boys team); Molly Dougan, Ellie Gray, Yasmin Kidd, Emma Montgomery, Beckie McBride and Alana Kinkaid (inter girls team); Ross Blackbourne (inter boys); Emma Hutchinson (senior girls), and Isaac McCollum (senior boys).
The competition was tough, with approximately 150 runners in each race. All Ballyclare High School runners applied maximum effort and Olivia Boyd (13th in the junior girls race) and Emma Hutchinson (10th in the senior girls race) have qualified to represent the school and Ulster at the Irish Cross Country Championships in Waterford next month. We wish both runners every success as they compete against the top athletes in the country.
