Senior Hockey Tour

By Ballyclare High School on 17 November, 2017

The senior hockey group travelled to Hamburg for an intensive training camp involving focused match play sessions, team building, highly competitive quizzes and physical challenges spread throughout the 5 day trip.

Our sessions were undertaken at Club Alster and Club Harvester both of which we have strong connections with. Club Alster is former colleague Tobi Deppermann’s club and Club Harvester is current senior coach Zoe Wilson’s former club;  she played professional hockey there last year. Our timing was excellent as we were able to watch both these teams play against one another in the local derby games.

A special drag flicking session was led by Mo Ghandi a current professional at Club Alster, Mo plays for the USA and is their leading drag flicker.

A visit to the city centre provided us with an opportunity to take a boat tour around the harbour, the key to Hamburg’s affluence. We saw the working side and the old historical areas of the harbour married with the regeneration programme taking place.

Finally we got to taste a traditional German meal prepared by Mrs Deppermann who invited us all to her home and this proved to be a lovely way to finish the trip.
