Remembrance

By Ballyclare High School on 15 November, 2017

All pupils participated in an annual Act of Remembrance on Friday 10th November.

Years 10 to 14 gathered to hear the names of past pupils who lost their lives serving in different conflicts from around the world. Rachel Armstrong in year 12 played the Last Post which was followed by a minute’s silence. Three wreaths were laid in the front entrance hall in tribute to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice and were, formerly, members of the school’s Scout Troop, the Old Ballyclarians Association and the school community overall.

Years 8 and 9 enjoyed a guest speaker, local historian Eddie Beck, who was able to provide a fascinating insight into the background of one former pupil who lost his life in the Second World War.

The Head Boy and Head Girl completed the weekend’s remembrance events by laying a wreath on behalf of the school at the cenotaph in the town’s Memorial Park on Sunday morning.
