Match Report: Saturday 6th Oct v Coleraine Grammar

By Ballyclare High School on 9 October, 2018

It was a great start for the 1stXI with a converted short corner, flicked in by Rebecca McCullough, giving Ballyclare an early lead. The team found it hard to settle, however, and it was not until the second half that they really took hold of the game. Player of the match Katie Stewart marshalled the defence well and the forwards made some great attacking runs. Molly Dougan scored a superb solo goal for Ballyclare’s second and good linking play from Rebecca Walker and Issy McGrugan allowed Issy to tap in for a third and final goal.

The 2AXI recorded an impressive 5-0 victory, with Ann O’Hara the player of the match. Leah Baird scored the first goal, with a great reverse shot, quickly followed by two more goals from Rachel Hill and Leah Wilson to make it 3-0 at half time. Not long into the second half, Amy McGookin followed up a save by the Coleraine ‘keeper to knock in the rebound for Ballyclare’s fourth goal, with Lauren Kilgore deflecting in a fifth before the end of the game.

Meanwhile, the 2BXI were frustrated by the fantastic Coleraine goalkeeper who made it difficult to convert their chances. The Ballyclare ‘keeper, Rhianna, was also forced to make an impressive save just before half time to leave the game scoreless at the break. Coleraine were first to break the deadlock, but Ballyclare rallied with super attacking play. Player of the match Olivia McCartney followed up her own shot to tap in the rebound and level the game, leaving the final score at 1-1.

The U14A team won 4-0, with players of the match Rachel Steele and Joanna Nesbitt displaying great effort and skill in moving the ball forward and into the circle. Rachel Steele was first to score, with the second coming from Sophie McConnell. A Coleraine own goal saw Ballyclare net their third, while Maddy Stewart shot home a fourth and final goal with a strong strike.

Scarlett Dunn was player of the match for the U13A team in their 2-1 victory, which saw two first half goals from Rachel Cox. Coleraine did manage to pull one back in the second half, but great defensive play from Scarlett Dunn in particular ensured the win for Ballyclare.
