Match Report: Saturday: 5th January

By Ballyclare High School on 8 January, 2019

The 1st XI played Omagh in the Schools’ Cup and the teams were more closely matched than the final scoreline suggests. The first ten minutes was end-to-end hockey, both teams winning two corners apiece, until Amy McGookin broke the deadlock for Ballyclare. Tails up, Ballyclare scored again – a lovely slip past the Omagh keeper by Rebecca Walker. Omagh still pressed, and Laura Chestnutt made some great saves in the Ballyclare goal.

After the break, Omagh pressed strongly, but the Ballyclare defence remained solid. Rebecca McCullough scored Ballyclare’s third with a drag-flick, whilst Megan Cochrane topped it all off, scoring almost from the baseline. Hannah Petrie was player of the match and the girls move into the next round.

Five other teams were in action in the League against Larne Grammar, with the 2BXI scoring five goals in an impressive victory. Player of the match Katie McCullough scored the first, with Lucy Graham adding a second before half time. Ellen McIlvenny added a third after the break, with Katie then scoring her second and Olivia McCartney sealing the win with goal number five.

The U14As won 1-0 in a close game which was scoreless at half time. Indeed, it was in the last five minutes that Jen Lamont flicked the ball into the back of the net for Ballyclare. Rachel Steele was player of the match.

Both the U14Bs and the U13As won 3-0 in their respective games. Despite Ballyclare pressure the half-time score was 0-0 in the U13A game. Second half determination saw player of the match Rachel Cox score once and Katie-Anna Weatherup score twice as Ballyclare earned the win.

The U13B team won 2-0, with a first half goal from Zoe Young and a second half goal from Mollie McDowell. Tori O’Hara was player of the match.
