Match Report: Saturday 2nd Feb. v Victoria College

By Ballyclare High School on 4 February, 2019

With a fantastic midweek Schools’ Cup win for the 1stXI over Methody, they now progress to the semi-final, to be played on Wednesday 13th February. From a 2-1 lead at half time, with goals from Amy McGookin and Megan Cochrane, Methody equalised in the second half to make it 2-2. The Ballyclare girls pushed on in the second half with two goals in quick succession from Molly Dougan and Rebecca McCullough, before Rebecca scored again towards the end to seal an impressive 5-2 victory. It was superb effort from all the girls and the whole team was voted player of the match.

The U15s also enjoyed success this week with a convincing 7-0 win over Slemish Integrated, which included a hat trick for Rachel Neill.

On Saturday, however, with all other games called off because of the weather, the U14A team were the only who played in their Plate game against Victoria. Ballyclare were first to score, an excellent ball up the pitch from Rachel Black finding Olivia Jenkins who put it in the back of the net. The Ballyclare girls kept the work rate high, putting pressure on the Victoria defence and winning several short corners, the final one of which was slapped into the goal by Holly Woodside, making it 2-0 to Ballyclare at half time.

Still determined to push on in the second half, Ballyclare enjoyed good possession and pressure up front. This paid off when Rachel Cox made a run into the Victoria circle and scored a lovely goal on the reverse. The defence also worked hard to keep a clean sheet and ensure that Victoria could not score. The final result was 3-0 to Ballyclare, with Eva Hughes player of the match.
