Hockey Reports Saturday 8th Dec.

By Ballyclare High School on 10 December, 2018

It was a fast-paced Schools’ Cup game for the 1stXI against Portadown College on Saturday. Several first half short corners eventually resulted in a goal a few minutes from half time, player of the match Rebecca McCullough converting with an impressive drag flick.
Playing with greater confidence in the second half, Ballyclare created chances and defended well. A strong Portadown break forced a good save from ‘keeper Laura Chestnutt, but a second goal from Amy McGookin sealed the win to progress into the third round of the cup.

The 2BXI played their Gibson Cup game against Glenlola. Ballyclare dominated possession for most of the first half and, after a few short corners, Ellie McBurney put away a rebounded shot from a short to leave Ballyclare 1-0 up going into the break.
Beginning the second half more positively, Ellen McIlvenny scored a second for Ballyclare to create a cushion and, although Glenlola did manage to pull one goal back, they were unable to equalise before the end of the game allowing Ballyclare to progress. A great performance all round, with Daisy Johnston named player of the match.

The juniors played Antrim and a commanding U14A performance produced a 4-0 win, with Jen Lamont opening the scoring in the first half. Further second-half goals from Bradie Hogg, Joanna Nesbitt and a second for Jen Lamont completed the tally, with Maddy Stewart and Bradie Hogg joint players of the match.

The U13s were supreme in their game, with five goals scored in the first half alone from Tilly Stewart, Rachel McCann, Katie Ireland, Ellie Kerr and Rachel Cox. Not yet finished, they put another four past the Antrim ‘keeper in the second half, with Tilly Stewart (player of the match) and Rachel Cox both scoring another two goals each. The unbeaten run continues!
