Aaron Fleming is a 5th year Medic at Gonville and Caius Cambridge University and has been involved in the design and user interface at the Open Ventilator System Initiative.

In March 2020 when the Covid pandemic began at a terrifying rate it was quickly noted that a lack of ventilators would be a huge obstacle in the treatment of this disease with a particular lack of machines  noted in less affluent countries. In response, a team at Cambridge University lead by Gonville and Caius College, which included international engineers and scientists and Aaron set out to produce a low-cost medical ventilator that could be used to save lives. The result was the first clinical grade ventilator to be manufactured in Africa. Congratulations to all involved in this wonderful achievement.
