European Day/Week of Languages

By Ballyclare High School on 30 September, 2022

Ballyclare High School celebrated European Day of Languages in style this year and ran lots of activities over a week. Year 8 pupils quizzed teachers on their language abilities in the form of a ‘Find Someone Who’ competition. Year 9 pupils took part in our Cultural Costume Day in which they dressed up to represent Spain, France or Germany. All KS3 pupils were tasked with baking something delicious for our MFL Bake Off and some of the entries have been mouth-wateringly good! Pupils awed teachers at their fervent engagement with this challenge and the range of outfits was outstanding. Staff entertained pupils with their language skills in life skills by taking part in a European Day of Language video introducing themselves in a language of their choice.

Our ever-keen Sixth Form Language Leaders visited local primary schools and demonstrated their excellent language abilities by delivering classes to primary school children.

All events helped create a real ‘buzz’ around school during European Day of Languages and the continued level of commitment shown by both pupils and staff alike is another example of our enthusiasm towards all things international.
