Cricket Report
By Ballyclare High School on 29 April, 2024
With no McCullough Cup fixtures scheduled for the second week of the new cricket season, the spotlight focused on the Ballyclare High Under 14 side who were starting their programme of matches in the Derriaghy Cup against Parkhall College.
Ballyclare batted first and managed to accumulate 107 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their allocation of 20 overs. The leading run-scorer was Daniel Jenkins with 32 runs, after Ballyclare had suffered the shock of losing two early wickets. No other batsman reached double figures, but 50 extras provided a significant bonus to the Ballyclare total.
A strong bowling and fielding performance restricted the Antrim side to only 40 runs. Jamie Lutton took three wickets without conceding a run, while Isaac Wilson, Jacob Donnelly and Sam Leetch each took two wickets.
With further group stage matches to be played against Belfast High and Carrickfergus Grammar, the team will hope to secure either first or second place in their group to progress to the knock-out stage of either the main competition or the Plate competition.
The second of five rounds of McCullough Cup fixtures is scheduled for Saturday 4th May when Wallace High School will provide strong opposition.
