CRICKET: 1stXI v Down HS

In over cast conditions at Hollinger Park, Ballyclare HS’s 1stXI had Down HS visiting in this McCullough Cup Match on Sat 18th May. Opening bowlers Josh Cowan and Ewan Wilson bowled tightly and beat the bat frequently. The Down HS openers looked settled though but a mix up in their calling saw Josh Cowan throw the stumps down from mid-wicket to send one packing. Change of bowlers Matthew Hamilton found that the Down HS bats adopted a more aggressive approach and boundaries were being hit. Jay Kanna found he couldn’t grip the somewhat wet ball, as rain descended, and his over was costly. Having persevered with the weather and having been off and on twice, the match was reduced to 14 overs. But by 10:40am the Surrey Loam grass wicket became saturated and play was abandoned. Match result deemed a draw.
