Bar Mock Trial 2017
By Ballyclare High School on 27 November, 2017
Our Bar Mock Trial team were victorious in all three cases on Saturday, 25 November. The Bar Mock Trial competition is held annually in the Laganside Courts, Belfast and is presided over on the day by the current members of our judicial system.
The team have been working since September on preparing to defend or prosecute two court cases based on fraud and grievous bodily harm. Following a draw the team defended against Aquinas Grammar School, prosecuted against Bangor Grammar in the second round and also prosecuted against Strathearn in the final round.
This is our sixth year participating in the prestigious competition which gives senior pupils the opportunity to adopt a number of roles relating to a range of legal pathways.
Our pupils received advice and guidance from four practising barristers led by Ms Lee Brown, a former pupil and current parent. The barristers advised our team on a twice-weekly basis in preparation for the event.
Former and current pupils have found this experience most useful in deciding whether to follow a legal career path.
Parents attending the day-long event were impressed by the team’s polished and confident performance.
