Ballyclare Primary School P6 has a blast with Digital SchoolHouse lesson at Ballyclare High!

By Ballyclare High School on 5 December, 2024

On 5th December 2024, Mrs. Arbuckle’s P6 class from Ballyclare Primary School swapped their usual classroom for a digital adventure at Ballyclare High School—and what an adventure it was! Hosted by Ballyclare High, this Digital SchoolHouse session was packed with excitement, energy, and a whole lot of dancing.

The session, led by  Mr. Shaw, wasn’t your typical computing lesson. Instead of keyboards and screens, the students dived into the world of algorithms through the lively game Just Dance! Every step, twirl, and shimmy showed how sequences of instructions (a.k.a. algorithms) come together to create something both fun and functional. Mr. Shaw broke down the moves to reveal how algorithms work in dance and in the tech world, making learning feel like a party!

Ballyclare High pupils Darcy and Eddie were on hand as fantastic helpers, guiding the P6 kids and making sure everyone was grooving along with confidence. Their patience, enthusiasm, and encouragement were the secret ingredients that made the day extra special.

“Our goal is to show that computing isn’t just about numbers and codes; it’s about creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving,” said Mr. Shaw.

The day was another wonderful chapter in the growing partnership between Ballyclare Primary and Ballyclare High School. The excitement and curiosity from Ballyclare Primary’s P6 class were contagious, proving that these young learners are ready to take on the digital world—one dance move at a time.

A huge thank you to Mrs. Arbuckle, Mr. Shaw and of course, Darcy and Eddie for making it a great day for everyone involved.
