Sat 8th Sept v Ballymena

The 1st XI put Ballymena under plenty of early pressure straight from the whistle, but the opposition managed to repel all of Ballyclare’s advances. It was a solid performance for a season opener, but neither side managed to break the deadlock, despite a lot of late pressure from Ballyclare. Issy McGrugan was Player of the Match. The 2AXI produced a good 2-0 win in their opening game.

It was a tough opening game away for the U14A team who were 2-0 down at half time; however, a strong second half from Ballyclare saw Christina Jenkins voted Player of the Match for her excellent defensive play. The U14Bs were unfortunate to lose 3-0 to a strong Ballymena side, but the defence worked hard to prevent further goals being scored with goalkeeper Rebecca Tolland awarded Player of the Match for some important saves.

The U13As produced a dominant performance to win 7-0, with 3 first half goals from Player of the Match, Rachel Cox. Ballyclare goalkeeper, Joy Duncan, made some important saves and the away side were able to put four more in the net in the second half: one more from Rachel Cox, two from Katie-Anna Weatherup and one from Ellie Kerr.

It was a very close game for the U13Bs and U13Cs who both drew 0-0 with their respective Ballymena sides. Defender Katie Wasson was Player of the Match for the U13Bs as she worked hard to keep the ball out of the Ballyclare circle. Goalie Claudia Braiden also made some good saves for the U13B side. Lea-Rose Cleland was Player of the Match for the U13C team for her strong attacking and defensive play. Rylee Boyd also created some good opportunities for Annie Johnston and Hannah White in the circle.
