STEM Ambassadors

Our Sixth Form STEM Ambassadors, support STEM related projects both in Ballyclare High and in the wider community. Through this leadership opportunity, pupils visit local primary schools and play a vital role in inspiring the next generation of young minds. With contagious enthusiasm and a wealth of knowledge, our STEM Ambassadors engage primary school pupils in interactive activities, captivating demonstrations, and enlightening discussions about the wonders of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). By sharing their own journeys and experiences, our Sixth Form STEM Ambassadors sow the seeds of inspiration, empowering young learners to dream big, think critically, and embrace the endless opportunities that await them in the world of STEM.

Options

On Thursday afternoons, Sixth Form have a timetabled slot for ‘Thursday Options’. The classes that operate during this time are designed to be fun and allow our pupils to relax whilst learning something beyond what is offered through the curriculum. They also provide an opportunity for our pupils to develop skills that can be included on their CV and UCAS application.

Sign Language, Ulster Scots, Survival Cookery, Food Safety and Hygiene for Catering Award, BHS STEM Ambassadors, Italian, Fashion, Mindfulness and Sewing, Super Secretarial Skills, Sofa to Salsa Dance, Guitar, Self Defence, Community Service, Yearbook, School Magazine, Voluntary Work, Money Matters, Japanese and Language Leaders.

Prefects

Our Prefects play a vital role in the smooth functioning of our school community. As pupil leaders, they act as ambassadors for their peers, embodying the values and ethos of the school. Prefects often assist staff in various tasks, such as organising events and maintaining discipline. They serve as role models, inspiring their peers to excel academically, socially, and morally. Through their leadership and dedication, Prefects contribute to fostering a positive and inclusive school environment, where every student feels supported and valued.

Buddies

The aim of the Buddy schemed is to enable pupils to settle into school life and feel safe and secure in their new environment. Year 14 buddies support the work of the Year 8 Form Tutors by providing a listening ear for Year 8 pupils and support their learning, in the classroom, through extra-curricular activities, and in the wider school community.

SistersIN

In Sixth Form, we offer the SistersIN Leadership Programme, an 8-month development journey for Sixth Form girls to help build their confidence and broaden their career perspectives. The programme connects young women at the point when they are first starting to think about future careers and provides meaningful mentoring relationships with female leaders across a range of professions.

Language Leaders

Language Leaders

The Language Leaders programme is offered as part of our weekly Sixth Form enrichment Options programme. Year 13 pupils complete a series of leadership activities and prepare a wide range of resources focusing on vocabulary and culture. Once in Year 14, our pupils then visit local primary schools weekly to deliver their planned lessons to younger pupils of different ages.
