The aim of the Buddy scheme is to enable pupils to settle into school life and feel safe and secure in their new environment. Year 14 pupil Buddies support the work of the Year 8 Form tutors by providing a listening ear for Year 8 pupils and support their learning in the classroom, through extra-curricular activities and in the wider school community. Year 14 Buddies are also assigned to pupils in Year 9. Buddy training takes place in August prior to the Year 8 Induction Day. This training involves sessions delivered by the Vice Principal (Pastoral) and the Emotional Health and Wellbeing Officer as well as external team building activities. Pupils are given a comprehensive guide known as the ‘Buddy Booklet’ to accompany the session and provide support for the role.
