With no Saturday morning cricket fixtures arranged for the weekend prior to the summer examinations, attention focused on the Year 8 team’s quarter final Centenary Cup match against Wallace High School.

A highly competitive game was anticipated, but Ballyclare emerged as comfortable winners by seven wickets.

Batting first in ideal conditions on the School artificial wicket, the visitors from Lisburn could only manage a total of 32 all out. Ably supported by energetic fielding, the Ballyclare bowlers prospered, Ryan Arthur delivering figures of four wickets for only six runs. Ryan claimed all four of his wickets from consecutive deliveries in his third over of the innings, a remarkable, presumably unprecedented, achievement at this level. Noah Morton claimed three wickets at a cost of only nine runs, while James McKnight added two wickets for only six runs.

This enthusiastic group of Year 8 cricketers has shown considerable promise in the opening matches of the cricket season, and qualification for the semi-final of this prestigious competition is a deserved reward for their efforts and for the contribution of their coaches to their cricketing development.
